My Hades-Inspired Solo RPG
I love Hades. I bought it back on July 11th and have sunk close to 70 hours into the game, with many more to come.
Analysis of the Boon Trees
In Hades, you collect boons from nine of the gods of the ancient Greek pantheon. The first boons you collect augment the five basic moves in the game: normal attack, special attack, casting, dashing, and a super move. From there, the boons are arranged in a pyramidal structure like this:
There are a couple of interesting things here:
- The set of base boons is often extended by a bonus boon. I've represented this as an overlap between the two circles
- Often improved boons draw on a subset of the base boons rather than the whole set of them. This subset tends to be used for most if not all improved boons. I've represented this through the dashed sections of the base boon circle
- The tree is pretty shallow; there's nothing here like an MMO ability tree that is a dozen layers deep.
